AMD Zen 2 to Take Over the CPU Market in a Few Days | What Will Intel Do? (Leaks and Rumors)

Things Don’t Look Good for Intel

Although Intel controls the majority of the gaming market with their Coffe Lake series CPUs, it seems like Coffe Lake is going to have a really hard time competing with AMD Zen 2. A while ago it was thought that Intel would eventually release something that will let them compete with AMD Zen 2 but, a while back it was leaked that Intel doesn’t have a plan for the future. As far as we know right now, Intel can’t do anything to compete with Zen 2.

AMD Zen 2 Specs and Price

As you can see in the specs list below, AMD Zen 2 series CPUs are going to be very powerful as gamers will be able to get their hands on 6c/12t CPUs for the low price of $200 and for only $749, users will be able to get their hands on a 16c/32t CPU with a turbo clock of 4.7 GHz. For comparison, if you spend $1000 on an Intel CPU right now you’ll get your hands on an Intel Core i9-9900X which features 10 cores and 20 threads as well as a turbo clock of 4.40 GHz the CPU also features a TDP of 165 W which is way higher than the 105w TDP required for the Ryzen 9 3950X.

AMD Ryzen 3000 Desktop AM4 Series
Cores/Threads | Base Clock | Turbo Clock | TDP | MSRP
Ryzen 9 3950X 7nm 16C / 32T 3.5 GHz 4.7 GHz 105W $749
Ryzen 9 3900X 7nm 12C / 24T 3.8 GHz 4.6 GHz 105W 499 USD
Ryzen 7 3800X 7nm 8C / 16T 3.9 GHz 4.5 GHz 105W 399 USD
Ryzen 7 3700X 7nm 8C / 16T 3.6 GHz 4.4 GHz 65W 329 USD
Ryzen 5 3600X 7nm 6C / 12T 3.8 GHz 4.4 GHz 95W 249 USD
Ryzen 5 3600 7nm 6C / 12T 3.6 GHz 4.2 GHz 65W 199 USD

Intel Rumored to Cut CPU Prices By Up to 15%

According to the latest rumors going around the internet, Intel is going to slash their CPU prices by up to 15% so that they can compete with AMD Zen 2. If Intel does slash their most powerful gaming CPU, the Intel Core I9-9900k by 15%, it’ll still cost $425 which means that it’ll be competing with the Ryzen 7 3800X. The Intel Core I9-9900k features 8 cores/12 threads, a turbo frequency of 5.00 GHz, and a TDP of 95 W. The AMD Ryzen 9 3900X would most likely sweep the floor with the Core i9-9900k in productivity benchmarks thanks to the higher core count but, the 5GHz turbo clock means that the Core i9-9900k will have an advantage in gaming benchmarks.
