'Ape Out' Gets Playable Trailer Ahead Of PAX East Appearance

A new “playable trailer” (formerly known as a demo) for Ape Out is now on Steam, courtesy of one-man dev team Gabe Cuzzillo, alongside a standard, non-interactive promotional video for the 2D action game about an escaped ape. Fans of the stylized violence popularized by the likes of Hotline Miami will probably enjoy Ape Out, a game Cuzzillo describes as “about primal escape, rhythmic violence, and frenetic jazz.”

The new Ape Out demo gives players a chance to complete the scenarios shown in the game’s latest trailer, instead of forcing us to make assumptions about how the game “feels” based on the trailer. But if playable trailers aren’t your thing, Ape Out is one of several games being shown at Devolver Digital’s PAX East booth this weekend. It’s very possible that the same build of Ape Out will be on the show floor too; however, the public exhibition might give you a chance to see some inventive escape strategies from other PAX East attendees. If you won’t be at PAX, the full version of Ape Out will be available for purchase in just a few months, provided it doesn’t miss it’s Summer 2017 launch window.

For a closer look at Ape Out , download the game’s playable trailer on Steam or check out the latest trailer from Gabe Cuzzillo and Devolver Digital (embedded up top). Then head down to the comments section and let us know whether or not you plan to keep an eye on Ape Out in 2017.

Ape Out is in development for PC and expected to debut this summer.
