DJI Leak Teases a Budget Drone You’ll Actually Want to Buy

DJI Mavic Mini 249g Sign

The DJI Mini 2 is one of the most affordable drones for beginners, but it’s also over two years old. And when the Mini 3 Pro arrived in June it was priced higher than many expected, at nearly $700. However, a new leak suggests the budget drone you wanted could be coming soon.

According to newly leaked images and details on Twitter, the DJI Mini 3 could be getting ready to land. The often-reliable drone leaker @DealsDrone posted the photos and said the Mini 3 is coming soon. That’s on top of the same device clearing the FCC last month.

And while we can’t gather too many details from these images, it does reveal a few things combined with previous releases from the company.

As expected, the DJI Mini 3 (if that’s the name) will be a paired-down version of the Mini 3 Pro, albeit in the same overall package. By that, we mean it’ll have a very similar design, style, and housing.

The main difference between the two is the shape and location of the two sensors above the camera, suggesting DJI ditched obstacle avoidance to keep the price down. For what it’s worth, the original Mini and Mini 2 didn’t have high-end avoidance options either.

DJI Mini 3 Pro Arrives With a Rotating Camera for Social Media Shots

Interestingly, the leaked images and FCC details suggest it’ll have the same camera as the more expensive DJI Mini 3 Pro. And while we’re not sure if it’ll be able to rotate for portrait-mode videos, it’ll definitely be an improvement over the previous generation.

Initially, the DJI Mini 2 arrived at $449, making it highly affordable. And while we’re not sure if this upcoming Mini 3 will share the same starting price, all signs point to it being another 249g drone perfect for beginners.
