There’s good news today for Final Fantasy 15 completionist fans who missed out on the exclusive Gamestop preorder bonus, the 2D beat-‘em-up side-scroller game titled A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV .
A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV will be available for free on both the Playstation Store and Xbox Store on Mar. 1, Square Enix has announced. A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV will be free to anyone and everyone, not just those who purchased Final Fantasy 15 .
The story of A King’s Tale is told in the style of a fairy tale to young Noctis and features Cid. It’s set in Insomnia as well as two other locations in the Final Fantasy 15 world. Players can use melee, summons, magic and even companion attacks.

The pixel-art game features the following (via a press release):
- Deep Combat System – Combos, counters, and Regis’ signature “Warp Strike” combine for lightning fast real-time combat that rewards fast reflexes and smart tactics.
- Companions – Three distinct companions offer unique and new ways to attack as well as tailored super moves that deal massive damage.
- Magic – Ignite the battlefield, freeze your enemies, or electrify your foes with Fire, Ice, and Lightning magic.
- Summons – Call upon epic Astral entities to decimate your foes in jaw-dropping ways.
Also upcoming in the Final Fantasy 15 world include custom characters and online multiplayer, a possible PC port that might even add custom quests and mod support, and a free Chapter 13 update that will launch with the Episode Gladio DLC. The most recent DLC was the Moogle Chocobo Carnival which provided the ability to take selfies in all of Noctis’ adorable new outfits.
