The digital painting software Krita has reached the 3.2.0 release one day ago with numerous bug fixes and some very cool new features.
Here’s how you can install Krita 3.2 in Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 17.04, Ubuntu 17.10. and derivatives.
What’s new in Krita 3.2.0:
- New G’MIC qt plugin for Windows and Linux. It’s maintained by the authors of G’Mic
- Touch painting, paint with your fingers.
- Smart patch tool to clean up and remove elements you don’t want.
- Added Radian’s brush set to Krita’s default brushes.
- New blending mode: Hard Overlay
- Lots of bug fixes. See release note for more details.
How to Install Krita 3.2 in Ubuntu:
For Ubuntu 16.04 and derivatives, due to the old system qt5 libraries, it’s only available via the AppImage, a single executable file with all required libraries to run Krita.
Download Krita 3.2 (.appimage)
Allow execute the appimage from its ‘Properties’ window and run it to launch Kirta 3.2:
Install Krita 3.2 in Ubuntu 17.04, Ubuntu 17.10 via Krita Lime PPA:
Open terminal via Ctrl+Alt+T or by searching it from app launcher. When it opens, run command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kritalime/ppa
Input your password (no visual feedback while typing due to security reason) when it asks and hit Enter.
Then either upgrade to Krita 3.2 via Software Updater, or install it via commands:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install krita
Uninstall:
You can purge the PPA, which also downgrade Krita to its stock version in your Ubuntu release, via command:
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge && sudo ppa-purge ppa:kritalime/ppa
