Manage Fast Charging support in Samsung Galaxy smartphones

Samsung’s OneUI offers a lot of additional customization and productivity functions in addition to those available in stock Android. Among many such functions is the ability to manage fast charging support. You can disable fast charging when not needed to protect the battery while using the same power adapter and cable.

It is known that fast charging impacts battery health, be it to a minor, but convenience comes at its cost. The batteries that are charged using fast charging are likely to degrade faster than those that aren’t. So, Samsung provides an easy-to-use option to enable or disable fast charging. You can enable it when you don’t have enough time to charge. Similarly, you can keep it disabled during routine charges (such as overnight) when you are not in a rush. All this without changing between a faster/slower wall adapter or cable.

How to Turn Fast Charging On and Off in Samsung Smartphones

Modifying the fast charging support feature is available as part of OneUI 5. That covers all the latest Samsung phones in the Galaxy S (S21, S22, S23), M & A, and Galaxy Fold/Flip series. It may not be available in older versions of OneUI. So, you’re out of luck if you own a Galaxy smartphone that won’t be updated to OneUI 5. You can manage fast charging support for both wired and wireless charging.

  1. Open the Settings app on your Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Battery and device care.
  3. Tap on Battery.

  4. Scroll and then tap on More battery settings.
  5. You will find the toggles for:
    • Fast charging: Enable to enable fast charging support. And disable to disable the same.
    • Fast wireless charging: Available if your device supports wireless charging. Enable or disable the option as needed.

The phone’s software will instruct the charging controller to draw a lesser charge and charge the device slower if you disable fast charging.

Fast charging in Samsung phones is only possible if you use a certified compatible charger made by Samsung. Alternatively, most USB Power Delivery adapters will also work.
