In order to boost Surface Duo support by third-parties, Microsoft is working to add a dual-screen device support to the Chromium code base, which can be later used in both Chrome and Microsoft Edge, and possibly by other Chromium-based browsers.
Besides Microsoft’s very own devices, the code will support other devices, such as Galaxy Fold made by Samsung.
The updated emulator will receive the following capabilities:
- The following Dual-screen device support: Surface Duo and Samsung Galaxy Fold.
- The ability to detect both horizontal spanned and vertical spanned modes for dual screen device orientation.
- Hinge detection and its proper support.
- A new controls to manage the second screen contents.
The new options will become available with an experimental flag, and eventually reach the stable branch of Chromium-based browsers.
