Mixed Reality On Xbox One, Project Scorpio? Microsoft's MR Headsets Reportedly Coming To Consoles In 2018

Microsoft will bring mixed reality to the Xbox One and Project Scorpio in 2018, the company announced at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco Wednesday.

The company didn’t give much detail but the news could mean they will release a VR headset for the consoles.

“We’re also excited to share Windows Mixed Reality experiences will light up on other devices over time, beyond desktop and Microsoft HoloLens,” Microsoft said in a statement. “Our plan is to bring mixed reality content to the Xbox One family of devices, including Project Scorpio, in 2018.”

Last year, Microsoft announced it was teaming up with device makers Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and 3Glasses on various headsets that pair with Windows Mixed Reality-ready PC.

The company revealed its Acer Windows Mixed Reality developer edition headset at GDC 2017 Wednesday. This month, Microsoft will begin shipping developer edition headset, the company announced.

The developer kits will include the headset, documentation and access to Windows 10 Insider preview builds and the software development kit to allow developers to create mixed reality apps.

The future Windows Mixed Reality headsets will cost $299 and will pair with compatible Windows Mixed Reality-ready PCs starting at $499.
