Mysterious Windows 10 debug.log file belongs to Chromium

Windows 10 users have been mystified by the sudden appearance of a file called debug.log on their desktop which is recreated when they delete it.

The file only contains the line “FindFirstFile: The system cannot find the path specified”.

Now the mystery has been solved to a degree – the file is being created by the Chromium rendering engine and can therefore belong to Edge, Chrome, Brave or Opera.

The issue has been reported in Microsoft’s community forum and the Chromium bug repository for around a month now, though why exactly it is being created is still not clear.

If your desktop is already cluttered the file can be safely left alone, but if you insist on keeping a clear wallpaper here is how to get rid of it.

The file should now no longer be re-created when you delete it.
