At MWC 2017, Samsung has unveiled two new tablet devices and both of them offer support for 4K and HDR, which are both features of extreme rarity in consumer tablets today. Furthermore, one of them, the new Galaxy S3, offers up audio tuning by AKG
The consumer (and industrial and military and just about every other kind of) technology giant has used this year’s MWC event to focus away from smartphones and instead unveil some cool new tablets. Both devices, even when compared to the best in competitor products, come with some highly unique features.
First we have the new Galaxy Tab S3, which is Samsung’s first tablet with quad-stereo speaker technology tuned by AKG, which was until recently a property of legendary audio company Harman, which was itself acquired by Samsung in 2016 in an $8 billion dollar deal. Additionally, the Galaxy Tab S3 is one of the only tablets in existence today with 4K video at 60fps and HDR support built into its hardware as well.

The Tab S3 comes with a 9.7 inch Super AMOLED display and outputs both stunning color and contrast levels while also offering an obviously incredible level of sharpness thanks to its whopping pixel density of 264 ppi. The tablet doesn’t actually come with a 4K display resolution. It simply supports 4K HDR video sources at a full 60fps frame rate speed but the display’s small size and native above-FHD resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels make the rendering of native 4K content look pretty much as good as it would if it were being displayed in full resolution. This tablet offers a 32GB internal storage with the possibility of expansion up to 256GB via microSD and its native RAM sits at 4GB. There’s also a USB-C fast charging port in the Galaxy Tab S3. In tersm fo OS, the Galaxy Tab S3 comes with Android 7.0 Nougat.
Moving on, we have Samsung’s other tablet, the Galaxy Book, with both 10.6 inch and 12 inch versions that both come with Super AMOLED displays and are Samsung’s first ever Windows tablets. Both versions are based on the 4K, HEVC-friendly Windows 10 OS and come with Microsoft Office as a packaged part of their software. Due to their keyboard-friendly features and Windows 10 OS, these two tablets acan almost be considered mini-notebooks instead of tablets.
Both also support 4K and HDR video and also come with Samsung Flow biometric identification security features. The 12 inch version comes with an Intel Core i5 3.1GHz processors and the 10 inch model features one of Intel’s Core m3 2.6 GHz processors. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 mentioned above comes with one of Qualcomm’s 4K-capable Snapdragon 820 chipsets instead of Intel technology.

Other features of the two new tablet models across three sizes types are a refined version of the Samsung S Pen stylus which comes with a finer 0.7mm tip and superior pressure sensitivity. As for their camera chops, all of the tablets can handle 13MP rear camera resolution and 5MP front camera shooting while coming with expandable storage space for up fo 256GB on a microSD card and USB-C fast charging ports.The 10 inch Galaxy Book comes with a 4GB RAM while the 12 inch model comes in 4GB and 8GB versions.
Samsung is claiming a 12 hour battery life for the Galaxy Tab S3 and a 10.5 hour battery life in the 10 and 12 inch Galaxy Book tablets.
All of these new tablets will be available for pre-order as of March and pricing details will be confirmed soon but we’re expecting the Galaxy Tab S3 to retail for around $499.
