A budget variant of the AR Headset is still in the works for 2025 launch alongside a premium version
Apple will launch its first-gen AR Headset at the WWDC event, which is scheduled to take place on June 5. While the event is dedicated to software announcements, Apple will take the opportunity to announce a larger 15-inch MacBook Air powered by the M2 chip and the AR Headset. It was previously reported that the headset will feature a price tag of $3,000 which means that the average user will potentially wait for a cheaper version. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on high-end as well as budget variants of the AR Headset for 2025.
Apple has asked its suppliers that the AR Headset shipments would range from 7-10 million units in a single year from when it is available. The lower demand has a lot to do with the price of the headset, and Apple would benefit from higher sales if the price is kept low. Currently, the headset will be oriented toward developers, content creators, and professionals. We have previously reported that the headset will be able to run Final Cut Pro, suggesting that the device is made for professionals and editors.
To boost sales, Apple is working on additional models that will cater to the average user. However, the analyst has not shared any detail regarding the feature set of the device and what compromises would Apple make to keep the price at bay. Currently, the higher cost is associated with the components, which include 12 optical cameras, dual 4K microLED displays, casing, and the external battery pack.
With time technology will become cheaper, and the user’s purchasing power could potentially improve. This could allow the demand for the headset to increase.
