Dell Precision 5520 workstation 20th anniversary edition released

Dell has been celebrating “two decades of innovation and award-winning work,” at SIGGRAPH 2017. To mark this event the firm has released a twentieth-anniversary edition of Precision 5520 mobile workstation, some powerful new Dell Precision tower and rack workstations, and finally made available the Dell Canvas workspace.

Dell Precision 5520 Anniversary Edition

The Dell Precision 5520 Anniversary Edition is a version of Dell’s thinnest, lightest, and smallest mobile workstation. This edition will only be available for a limited time and boasts an exclusive hard anodized aluminium, brushed metallic finish in a brand-new Abyss colour, with anti-finger print coating.

If you are interested in this desirable mobile workstation you can head on over to Dell’s dedicated anniversary web pages. Clicking through will lead you to one of Dell’s system configuration pages where you will see that this special edition laptop is currently 35 per cent off. With the discount that makes it $2179.

Without further customisations, and what you get for the stated price is:

  • 15.6-inch UltraSharp UHD IGZO (3840×2160) Touch Wide View LED-backlit w/Prem. Panel Guarantee Anniv. Ed
  • Intel Core i7-7820HQ
  • Nvidia Quadro M1200 w/4GB GDDR5
  • 8GB, DDR4-2400MHz
  • M.2 PCIe 256GB SSD
  • Intel Wi-Fi Link 8265 Card (802.11ac + Bluetooth 4.2), 2×2
  • 2x USB 3.0, card reader, HDMI out, Thunderbolt 3 port, headphone jack
  • Windows 10 Pro 64bit

The above machine weighs in at 1.78Kg and measures 357 x 235 x 11.1mm. As a reminder, the Dell Precision 5520 is the thinnest and lightest mobile workstation from Dell and the regular model was first made available in Q1 this year.

Dell Canvas

Back at the CES 2017 Dell first showed off the Canvas. Then, in February, we were told that it was “coming soon.” Fast forward to August and Dell has finally made the 27-inch Canvas available via its own direct retail site.

As a reminder, I’ve embedded the product overview video for the Dell Canvas, above. If you can’t watch that right now – the Dell Canvas is a ‘smart workspace’ which pairs with your Windows 10 Creators Update PC to make digital creative work feel more natural. The adjustable tilt surface can be used with multi-touch, a digital pen, and a totem (like a dial).

The Dell Canvas costs $1799. There’s just one ‘configuration’ but you will pay more for extended guarantees and service plans.
