How Do I Change Start Menu Background In Windows 10?

We have been asked literally multiple times to explain how to change Windows 10 Start menu background to a custom picture. Not sure why anyone would want to change the default Start menu background but there are many users who would like to set their own picture as Windows 10 Start menu background picture.

Windows 10 offers plenty of ways to customize the Start menu. You can change the color of Start menu, pin websites, pin folders, resize tiles, group tiles and name them, make Start menu transparent, and more.

In Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, it was possible to customize the Start screen background with or without the help of third-party utilities. Is it possible to change Start menu background picture in Windows 10

Many PC users who used Windows 8.1 before upgrading to Windows 10 are wondering if it’s possible to set a custom picture as Start background in Windows 10. Since it was possible to set a custom picture as Start background in previous version of Windows, naturally users are expecting a similar feature in current version of Windows as well.

Unfortunately, there is no way out there to change the default Start menu background with a custom picture in Windows 10. In short, it’s not possible to set a picture as Start menu background, at least for now.

In the early developer preview builds of Windows 10 (released back in 2014), there indeed was a way change Start background with the help of a third-party tool. But the current Start menu in Windows 10 is vastly different from the one in earlier builds (we are talking about preview builds released in 2014 before the release of Windows to public). In short, there is no software or workaround out there to set a custom picture as Start background in Windows 10.

We will update this guide if and when someone comes out with a workaround or software to change the default background of Start in Windows 10.
