How fast is fast enough? A Chinese OEM is now trial-producing 240W Charger

Chinese smartphone brands are constantly pushing the envelope with their absolutely bonkers charging technologies. We recently heard rumors of the upcoming iQOO 10 Pro being equipped with 200W charging capabilities. However, if you think 200W is too much, you’ll be surprised to know that a Chinese OEM is planning to up the ante to 240W.

iQOO is reported to be working on the next-gen iQOO 10 Pro which will support up to 200W fast charging. This means the smartphone can be fully charged from 0-100 percent, in around 12 minutes. But iQOO 10 Pro might not be the fastest charging phone because as per the popular tipster Digital Chat Station, a fellow Chinese manufacturer is trial-producing a 24v-10a 240W charger.

The tipster, however, didn’t disclose the name of the manufacturer. It could be Oppo since the company had already showcased 240W fast charging in the past.

Back in February 2022, Oppo announced that it has developed 240W SuperVooc charging technology that can juice up a 4,500mAh battery in just 9 minutes. However, the technology was only tested in a prototype phone and the company didn’t announce exactly when this fast-charging technology will arrive on a smartphone.

Smartphone brands have pushed smartphone charging systems to a limit but there’s no telling what these kinds of charging speeds would do to the battery after a few charging cycles. We know that fast charging comes with a risk of overheating and corresponding hazards. Despite all the additional safety mechanisms implemented by the companies, the risk still persists.
