Replacing the battery in the Dell XPS 17 (2023)
Once you have all the tools you need, you can get started replacing the battery in the Dell XPS 17. Follow these steps:
- Turn off your laptop entirely.
- Disconnect the power adapter and any accessories you may have plugged in.
- Flip the laptop upside down with the hinge facing away from you.
- Using the Torx T5 screwdriver to remove the eight screws holding down the base.

- Use your fingernail or prying tool to remove the base from the laptop, starting from the bottom corners until it’s completely loose.

- Lift the base and remove it. The battery is located in the bottom half of the laptop.
- Disconnect the battery cable (in the top left corner) from the motherboard.

- Press the power button on the laptop for 5 seconds to drain any leftover power.
- Use the Philips screwdriver to remove the seven (M2) screws holding down the battery.

- Lift the battery from the laptop.
- Insert the new battery in the same position, and secure it with the seven screws.
- Connect the battery cable to the motherboard.
- Re-attach the base cover, making sure it’s properly locked in place.
- Secure it with the screws you initially removed.
- Plug in the laptop to charge up the new battery.
You should now be able to use your new laptop with no problem and enjoy battery life as if your laptop was brand-new. We recommend letting the laptop charge to 100% before unplugging it to let the battery get a full charge.
