How To Uninstall Edge Chromium When Uninstall Button Is Grayed Out

Microsoft had done it with the legacy Edge browser and now doing it again with the new Chromium Edge browser.

Uninstalling the new Chromium-based Edge browser is a straight-forward task if you manually installed it on your Windows 10 PC. However, Windows 10 does not offer an easy way to uninstall the Chromium-based Edge that was automatically installed via Windows Update.

Uninstall button grayed out for Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 Settings?

If the new Edge browser was installed via Windows Update, the Settings > Apps > Apps & features page does not offer an Uninstall option for the Edge. The Uninstall button is greyed out.

Luckily, there is a workaround to remove the Edge browser if the Uninstall button is greyed out. To remove the Edge browser, you have to use the Command Prompt.

Complete the given below directions to uninstall or remove the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge from Windows 10.

Method 1 of 2

Uninstall Edge when the Uninstall option is greyed out

Step 1: Open up This PC. Double-click on the drive where Windows 10 is installed. It’s usually the “C” drive.

Step 3: In the Application folder, you will find a folder with the version number of the Edge currently installed. Double-click on the same. In the picture above, 84.0.522.52 is the folder name. On your PC, the number might be different as you might be running a different version of Edge. But the number will like this only.

Step 4: Locate the Installer folder. Hold down the Shift key, right-click on the Installer folder and then click the Copy as path option to copy the path to the Installer folder.

Click the Yes button when you get the UAC prompt.

Step 6: In the Command Prompt, execute the following command:

CD PathToEdgeInstallerFolder

In the above command, replace “PathToEdge” with the actual path to the Installer folder of Edge. Since you have already copied the path in Step 5, paste it in the Command Prompt. So, just right-click and paste.
