The latest Intel roadmap seems to have been leaked over on the internet and reveals details on a majority of upcoming Intel CPU platforms. The roadmap consists of many upcoming platforms that are planned for release this year but do note that these aren’t the complete roadmaps and may be changed by Intel inn future revisions.

Leaked Intel Roadmap Reveals Cascade Lake-SP, Coffee Lake-E, Coffee Lake-H Processor Families

Starting off with the more interesting bits, Intel’s Cascade Lake platform is said to launch around Q3 2018. The Cascade Lake processors will be part of the Intel Scalable Processor Family which is their top Xeon server and workstation brand. The Cascade Lake-SP processor family will replace the first generation Skylake-SP family which is based on the Purely platform. Cascade Lake will be retaining support on the Purely Platform (Purely Refresh) and add new capabilities to the platform such as Vector Neural Network instructions (VNNI), Frequency architecture improvements and new DDR-T/Apache Pass DIMM support (select SKUs).

Since Cascade Lake is more of a refresh, they will be compatible with the current Socket P (LGA 3647) and offer 1S, 2S and up to 4S scalability. Just like first generation Purely, the Cascade Lake family will feature support for 6 channels of DDR4 RDIMM / LRDIMM per CPU so that’s 12 DIMMs per socket. A maximum of 16 Gb of DDR4 capacity will be supported per DIMM at speeds of upto 2933 MHz (1 DIMM per channel) or 2666 MHz (2 DIMM per channel).

Intel will also deploy their UPI (Ultra Path Interconnect) technology on Cascade Lake CPUs which is a 3-way interconnect allowing for speeds of up to 10.4 GTS. A total of 48 PCIe high-speed IO lanes will be retained from the previous processors (PCIe Gen 3.0) while the Lewisburg chipset will offer support for IE, eSPI, Integrated Intel Ethernet (up to 4x10Gb/1 Gb ports) up to 14 SATA III, Up to 14 USB 2.0, Up to 10 USB 3.0, Up to 20 PCIe 3.0 ports (at 8 GT/s).

The thing that remains to be known for the Cascade Lake-SP family is the total core count and power ratings. AMD is said to up their core count to 48/64 cores in the coming generation when EPYC “Rome” launches on 7nm. That launch is planned for early 2019. Intel on the other hand currently offers 28 cores in maximum on their flagship Xeon part while AMD offers 32 cores on their flagship EPYC part. Intel can up the core count in the coming generation of Xeon CPUs to remain competitive in the multi-core era.

Intel Coffee Lake-E, Coffee Lake-H, Coffee Lake-S New SKUs Also Spotted in Leaked Roadmap

Moving onward, we have three different Coffee Lake families listed in the roadmap. First up, we have the Coffee Lake-E family which replaces the Kaby Lake-E family. Previously, The “E” branding was reserved for HEDT chips but that has changed as current HEDT lineup goes by the “X” brand. As such, the Coffee Lake-E chips mentioned here are part of the workstation Xeon E3 family that will be supported by the LGA 1151 socket. For the HEDT family, Intel has planned to launch their next-gen Cascade Lake-X processors by Q4 of 2018.

These chips will feature up to 6 cores and will be supported by the CNL PCH-H. Over the Kaby Lake E platform, Coffee Lake-E will offer faster memory support (DDR4-2666). Aside from that, it will retain the 16x PCIe Gen 3 lanes, Gen 9.5 graphics chip and ECC memory support. The platform it self will be known as “Mehlow Workstation” and is expected to arrive in Q2 2018. At least three of the chips have been mentioned which include:

  • Intel Xeon E-2176G (LGA 1151)
  • Intel Xeon E-2124G (LGA 1151)
  • Intel Xeon E-2176M (BGA Mobile)
  • Intel Xeon E-2186M (BGA Mobile)

There are more Coffee Lake chips in bound under the Coffee Lake-H and Coffee Lake-S (Mobile / Desktop) segments. On the desktop front, we are looking at Core i3-8100, Pentium G5400 and Celeron G4900 chips by Q2 2018. On the mobility front, we are getting Core i7-8850H and Core i5-8400H by the end of Q2 2018. There are more chips planned than these as reported in a previous leak. Details on those can be found in the table below:
