The notch on the iPhone X has received a fair bit of criticism, though the rest of the phone is covered by a beautiful OLED screen. As a technology company, Apple would strive to make its products better, and an analyst believes that the Cupertino firm would start this by reducing the notch on the iPhone X successor. In September 2018, we could be seeing an iPhone family bearing a smaller notch, meaning more screen of the device is going to be covered by nothing by the OLED colors.
Earlier Rumor Pegged 2019 iPhone Family in Bearing a Smaller Notch at the Front
According to a research copy that was obtained by MacRumors, Andrew Gardiner, Hiral Patel, Joseph Wolf, and Blayne Curtis are all analysts at the investment bank Barclays and state that Apple is going to be working really hard to reduce the notch on the upcoming iPhone X successor. This goes against the earlier rumor, where it was stated that the 2019 series of devices would sport a smaller notch.
“Based on several data points within the 4Q17 reporting period and our supply chain meetings at CES, we remain confident that Apple is set to deploy its TrueDepth 3D sensor across the iPhone range in 2018 and to also add it to the pending iPad Pro refresh as well.
Given the complexity and multiple years spent developing the current generation of module, combined with supplier comments over the past month regarding multi-year customer commitments, we do not envisage a major change to the architectural make-up in 2018 […]
We do expect the sensor to evolve slightly, potentially reducing in size (i.e., smaller notch) and improving in specificity […] helping to further drive very strong growth [for some Apple suppliers] in 2H18 as the second generation of sensor ships in this year’s new iPhones.”
Having a smaller notch on the iPhone means that these devices will look more attractive than ever and it would not leave a distracting element for the user when they are engaged in using the phone. Without the home button present, users have to interact differently with the iPhone X using a series of gestures and finger movements, which can become quite confusing occasionally.
