Major iOS 18 Features Detailed Ahead of iOS 17 Release This Month

iOS 18 to come with major Siri features and enhancmenets

Apple has announced that it will be hosting its ‘Wonderlust’ event on September 12 to announce the new iPhone 15 lineup. The company will also release the final release candidate builds of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, and additional updates after all the announcements are done. We are expecting the company to release iOS 17 to the general public on September 22. However, ahead of iOS 17’s official release, we are hearing details on the new features coming with iOS 18 and how it can improve usability through Siri.

Siri in iOS 18 will be getting a major boost and will be able to perform tasks with multiple steps via a voice command

iOS 18 will be available to all users next year with some pretty nifty features. The company is playing around with generative AI technology which will be integrated into a wide range of aspects of the platform. According to a report published by The Information, iOS 18 will make Siri a lot smarter with the use of language models. Currently, Siri is only beneficial when it comes to setting alarms, opening apps, and similar basic tasks.

In contrast, Google has managed to take giant leaps ahead with its Google Assistant. The digital assistant from Google will only get smarter on Android as the company is also heavily invested in language models. While Apple is familiar with the market, it is working to enhance Siri with some major features with iOS 18. According to the report, Siri in iOS 18 will be able to understand and automate complex commands that feature multiple steps.

To be fair, iOS 16 and iOS 17 already have a Shortcuts app that can automate tasks designed specifically for a user. However, the entire process of setting commands and actions is quite cumbersome. In iOS 18, Siri can perform multiple steps in the background and deliver actions or results using nothing but your voice, For instance, the virtual assistant can stitch multiple photos to create a GIF o send it to a friend, All you have to do is ask Siri and it will take the required actions in the background.

The Information notes that Apple will integrate the generative AI language models in iOS 18 next year. The company could attach some of the functionality with the iPhone 16 lineup. However, it is most likely that the new Siri will be available on all devices compatible with iOS 18. The new Siri could be Apple’s answer to the Google Assistant and its potential integration with Bard in the future. We will keep you guys updated on the latest as soon as further details are available.
