Microsoft last night released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17101 (RS4) to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring and also Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17604 (RS5) to Windows Insiders who have opted into Skip Ahead. This build comes with a new power plan called “Ultimate Performance” for higher-end PCs. This feature will be available only on the newly announced Windows 10 Pro for Workstations, a high-end edition of Windows 10 Pro.
According to Microsoft, this new power plan will offer absolute maximum performance by eliminating micro-latencies associated with fine grained power management techniques. An OEM can select the Ultimate Performance Power plan by default on new PCs and users can change it according to their needs anytime.
As the power plan is targeted towards reducing micro-latencies, it may impact hardware and consume more power than the default balanced plan. So, Microsoft will not make this plan available on battery powered PCs.
