It’s no secret to anyone by this point that Wi-Fi 7 is coming. The standard isn’t expected to launch for at least one more year, but we have seen plenty of hardware makers announce their own Wi-Fi 7 routers already. Now, one more router is joining the growing list, and it comes from Netgear.

Netgear has introduced the Orbi 970 Series, which harnesses the power of Wi-Fi 7 — building upon the foundation laid by Wi-Fi 6E to make your internet connection even faster. It boasts speeds of up to 27 Gbps, ensuring that you’re able to handle 4K/8K video streaming, HD Zoom calls, online gaming, and AR/VR experiences without your local network becoming a performance bottleneck.

Key features include Netgear’s quad-band technology and Enhanced Dedicated Backhaul, which leverage Wi-Fi 7’s capabilities to combine 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands and achieves a remarkable 10 Gig wireless backhaul speed for minimal latency. The Smart Connect feature intelligently selects the best Wi-Fi band for each device, optimizing performance. And in addition to its exceptional speed, the Orbi 970 Series offers a range of valuable services. It comes with one year of Netgear Armor, a Bitdefender-backed antivirus built right into your router providing comprehensive security for all connected devices.

It can also be set up as a mesh system to cover 10,000 square feet, supporting up to 200 devices. Additional satellites can be added to extend coverage, each equipped with high-speed Ethernet ports. The Orbi 970 Series also incorporates advanced technologies such as 320 MHz high-capacity channels, 4K QAM, Preamble Puncturing, and Multi-link Operation to ensure optimal network performance and reliability.

The only downside with this Wi-Fi 7 system is its pricing. Options include a 3-pack with a router and 2 satellites at $2299.99, a 2-pack with a router and 1 satellite at $1699.99, and an add-on satellite for $899.99. Clearly, the future of Wi-Fi is expensive, and this is one of the more expensive options. Whether it’s worth it for you is up to you to decide. The Orbi 970 series is now available on Netgear’s website and at major retailers.
