OnePlus Nord 3 debuts with Dimensity 9000 SoC, better screen and bigger battery

After months of leaks, OnePlus finally released its hero midranger for 2023 – the OnePlus Nord 3. The handset offers a slew of upgrades over its predecessor, the Nord 2T – bigger and better screen, more powerful chipset and bigger battery.

The new Nord is now built around a 6.74-inch display, up from the 6.43-inch screen from last year, putting it in an entirely different size category. The new OLED panel supports 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ content. Interestingly, the screen features a higher 1240 x 2772px resolution.

The screen also has an ultra-fast 1000Hz touch response rate, 10-bit color depth and can adjust its refresh rate within the 40-120Hz range. For a complete multimedia experience, the Nord 3 provides a set of Dolby Atmos-tuned stereo speakers.

A new MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset replaces the old Dimensity 1300 and promises a substantial performance and efficiency boost. The silicon is paired with either 8GB or 16GB of RAM and with 128GB or 256GB internal storage, respectively.

The camera hardware remains unchanged, though. The same 50MP Sony IMX890 imager with 1/1.56″ size and 1.0µm pixel pitch is paired with an optically-stabilized lens with f/1.9 aperture. The ultrawide has an 8MP sensor, f/2.3 aperture and a 120-degree FoV. The 2MP macro camera is also on the back. The front-facing camera is upgraded to a 16MP sensor.

The OnePlus Nord 3 is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery – a significant increase from the 4,500 mAh pack of the predecessor, while maintaining the 80W fast charging. OnePlus promises good battery health after four years of daily charging.

Of course, the phone ships with Android 13 out of the box, based on OxygenOS 13 and the company promises to keep the phone updated for three years, meaning it will get three major Android updates.

As you can see from the photos, the Nord 3 has a new, simpler design with flat edges and a flat glass back panel. The chassis is IP54-certified against splashes and dust and you can find OnePlus’ iconic alert slider on the side.

The Nord 3 will be made available in two colors – Misty Green and Tempest Gray. The starting price for the 8GB/128GB configuration is €499, while the 16GB/256GB variant asks €50 more. However, OnePlus is offering an early bird discount on the latter until July 31 and it will set you back €499.
