Qualcomm is testing a second ARM SoC for Windows – the Snapdragon X Plus

Qualcomm recently announced its new flagship ARM chip for Windows PCs, the X Elite. However, the chipmaker is currently testing an underlying chip expected to be called the Snapdragon X Plus.

The SKU number for the SoC in question is the X1P. Since the Snapdragon X Elite is the X1E, it’s logical to expect it to be the Snapdragon X Plus.

Qualcomm has been testing the X1P44100 and X1P46100 chips since at least February. The two SoCs have the Snapdragon X65 5G modem built in, but we currently do not have any more information about the chips’ architecture.

We can expect the cores from the X Elite to serve as the basis for the X Plus, just clocked down. However, this is just speculation on our part. Winfuture’s report points to the possibility of a 10-core Snapdragon X Plus to complement the 12-core X Elite.

Qualcomm’s custom ARM cores are expected to bring significant competition to Apple’s ARM chips.
