One of the great things about Vizio is that it’s one of the best manufacturers out there of high quality 4K TVs with numerous premium specs but at prices that are remarkably affordable. This was especially the case in the company’s 2016 lines of televisions, of which the single best model we reviewed was the downright excellent P-Series HDR lineup.
Given this sort of “pedigree”, and the somewhat recent news that Vizio is now owned by Chinese electronics maker LeEco, (which also recently released the budget Super4 HDR 4K TV lineup) we were definitely excited to see what Vizio would come up with in 2017. This meant a dose of disappointment when CES 2017 came and went in January without any new TVs unveiled under the Vizio brand. Now however, the company that brought us the superb 2016 P, M, D and E-Series 4K HDR TVs has finally revealed a 2017 E-Series model with more cool specs than ever before.
The new 2017 E-Series comes with high dynamic range display technology and in this particular model, the HDR aspect is in fact Vizio’s main focus point. The brand is trying to make a point of installing reasonably high quality HDR specs in the most affordable possible 4K TVs for maximum consumer accessibility even for buyers on a tighter budget.
With this emphasis in mind, the 2017 E-Series models in the 55 inch or larger range deliver both 4K resolution and HDR display/content support and manage to cost as little as $550 in doing so. This is a fairly impressive achievement from these 4K TVs and while there are models from Samsung (such as the KU6300) and Sony (the X800D in particular) which also offer some sort of HDR display specs and support for similar prices, none of them quite get as affordable as $550 for a 55 inch model. The HDR found in premium Vizio TVs like the 2016 P-Series is of the arguably superior Dolby Vision type (which includes support for HDR10) while the 2017 E-Series models only support HDR10 high dynamic range.
Nonetheless, if the review metrics we got from the 2016 Vizio TV line-up are anything to go by (particularly for the P-Series, M-Series and even the D-Series budget TV model), this new 2017 E-Series lineup should offer some very decent overall picture performance and content support along with its wonderfully low price tag. This will apply particularly to the larger E-Series models, such as the 75 inch version of this TV, which retails for a remarkably cheap $2000. For a TV this big with at least some kind of HDR specs, $2000 is simply great, especially since Vizio can be considered a major brand.
The 2017 E-Series features SmartCast and Chromecast support
The 2017 E-Series lineup also feature’s Vizio’s mostly excellent and highly versatile, app-loaded SmartCast smart TV platform with Chromecast support built right into it. There are also smart speakers integrated with these TVs and while Vizio’s 2016 P-Series TVs probably offer a better deal due to their definitively great HDR picture quality, the 2017 E-Series is looking like it’s going to be an interesting budget option. Again, $2000 for a massive name brand 75 inch 4K TV? That can’t be too bad no matter how you cut it.
The 75 inch and even bigger 80 inch 2017 Vizio E-Series TV models are already available for sale and we’re expecting to see smaller 43 inch and up models emerge soon. Here is the price schedule for the whole lineup of 2017 E-Series TVs. As you can see, there are also 43 inch and 50 inch models available for even cheaper than $550 but the HDR specs don’t start until the 55 inch range.
