Microsoft has released Windows Insider Preview Build 26052, which includes a new Microphone Test Utility. This utility allows users to compare the audio quality of their microphone in Default and Communication modes.
This handy tool lets you compare your microphone’s Default and Communication audio modes. By recording and listening to your voice in both modes, you can:
- Hear the difference: Some audio drivers offer specialized effects for communication purposes. This tool lets you compare the processed audio with the unprocessed default mode, ensuring your voice sounds clear and natural for your intended use.
- Optimize for different applications: Whether chatting with friends or recording a podcast, having the right audio settings can make a difference. You can easily determine which mode delivers the best results for your needs.
- Test out Voice Clarity: This new feature, also available in the latest flight, promises improved microphone audio quality. Use the test utility to compare Voice Clarity on and off and see its impact firsthand.
This tool is currently for testing purposes only and doesn’t alter the actual audio mode used by applications. While useful for most drivers, compatibility limitations might exist in specific cases.
