Wise Disk Cleaner Review [How it Compares to Other Cleaners]

Wise Disk Cleaner is a long-running free program with a good reputation, so I decided to see what it can do. In this Wise Disk Cleaner review, I test its top features and how it stacks up against similar cleaners and PC repair software.

If you want to keep your PC clean and optimized there are countless tools that promise the world, but which really work? Is Wise Disk Cleaner one of them?

Let’s find out:

Wise Disk Cleaner Review – Main Features

Wise offers many different Windows utilities, but its disk cleaner focuses on getting rid of hidden junk and other issues that might be slowing down your computer.

Here are its main features:

System Cleaning

The main file cleaning feature automatically deletes unnecessary system files hidden deep in the background that you won’t think to delete yourself.

These include:

  • Temporary files that programs create and use temporarily, but can accumulate over time and take up valuable disk space.
  • Log files programs use to record events and errors, but they can grow in size over time.
  • Recent documents and quick access data in the system cache.
  • Invalid shortcuts that point to files or programs that no longer exist on your computer.
  • Temporary system files created by Windows to store information that is no longer needed.

Its cleaning capabilities are comparable to other popular tools like CCleaner and IObit. It does the job well and gives you full control if you only want to delete certain types of files.

You get One-Click Cleanup to start the process quickly, and the Advanced Cleaner, which lets you select the specific drive and removable media to clean.

System Slimming

This feature helps you streamline your Windows system by removing components that you don’t need.

When I ran this tool, I found old Windows update installers, Japanese and Chinese language packs, and wallpapers I never use.

Browser Caches

Wise Disk Cleaner helps to protect your privacy by removing various types of internet history and privacy traces, which goes beyond the browser’s built-in data cleaning setting.

It cleans browsing history, cookies, download history, and temporary internet files, some of which pose a risk to privacy due to web tracking.

Just remember to only select the data you’re willing to lose because search bar history and cookies can be important when accessing your day-to-day sites quickly.

Privacy Eraser

The privacy eraser utility is for removing files permanently. When you send something to the recycle bin and even clear it out, the actual data is still stored on the disk until the sectors are overwritten. This allows tech-savvy people to recover files you wanted gone forever.

Wise uses advanced algorithms to securely erase data from your hard drive, making it completely unrecoverable. This is useful for financial records and other personal data you never want others to find.

If you’re throwing out an old hard drive, Wise takes this a step further by wiping the disk completely and overwriting everything with 0-byte files, so nothing remains.

This is a free add-on and isn’t part of the main Wise Disk Cleaner program.

Interface and Ease-of-Use

Wise Disk Cleaner is very user-friendly. Just launch the program, choose the appropriate tabs at the top, such as common cleaner, advanced cleaner, system slimming, or disk defrag, and click the start button.

Wise Disk Cleaner Review - interface

Before cleaning, you can check boxes beside the type of files you wish to clean or the disk drive to focus on for advanced cleaning. After a scan, you get a summary and the amount of data that can be deleted. This gives you a second opportunity to choose what files to remove.

The software has a limited impact on system resources and won’t slow down common programs while working. However, you should close your browsers when cleaning your browsing history.

One useful feature is the ability to schedule cleaning on a regular basis, so you can let it run without thinking about it.

Within the interface, you can access and download its other free utilities and it doesn’t bombard you with ads or upsells to purchase its premium product.

Hands-On Results

To give you an idea of how good Wise Disk Cleaner is, I put it head-to-head with CCleaner.

Wise Disk Cleaner Review - comparison with CCleaner

I checked all of the boxes for a common clean and it detected over 8,000 files and 3.03GB to clean.

Taking the same approach with CCleaner, it found slightly more data – 3.88GB.

Pricing

  • Wise Disk Cleaner and its main cleaning and defragging tools are free to use.

It makes up just one part of its broader Wise Care 365 suite, which bundles all its utilities. These include real-time system security, PC optimization and tune-up tools, privacy protection, system and hardware monitoring, and much more.

  • $47.94/year, currently discounted to $35.95 – for a license on 3 PCs.

This is a similar approach to other Windows performance and cleaning tools like CCleaner and IObit, which offer cleaning and other utilities for free but full suites for a premium subscription.

Wise is cheaper than CCleaner’s equivalent $39.95 three-PC plan.

Wise Disk Cleaner Review – Verdict

Although Windows does have native cleaning utilities, Wise Disk Cleaner makes the process easier and digs a little deeper.

It’s a powerful tool for cleaning a variety of junk files to help optimize your computer’s performance and free up space.

And the best part is that it’s completely free to download and use, making it a cost-effective way to maintain your PC’s performance.

When looking at the top-tier free cleaning tools, Wise stacks up well. So, it’s certainly worth a try!
