Framework

Most modern laptops are difficult to take apart, let alone replacing and upgrading most components. That’s what made the Framework Laptop 16 so interesting when it was first announced in March, as it promised to be a fully modular laptop, and now you can finally pre-order yours.

The Framework Laptop 16 has an exciting concept behind it. It looks and feels like a regular 16-inch laptop, maybe in the chunkier side, but the cool thing about it is that you can upgrade just about everything from it. The laptop itself has a swappable expansion bay with bi-directional PCI Express connectivity, letting you hook up stuff to it. These modules are as complex, or as simple, as you want them to be. If you want better thermals, you can hook up a pair of fans to it. And if you want better performance in games, a powerful dedicated GPU is also an option.

It has multiple expansion slots so you can add the ports you need, with several options available, and you can even swap out the keyboard and the trackpad for whatever you want. The video Framework used for announcing the laptop back in the day shows plenty of options that make the laptop a perfect fit for anyone. That video even showed that you could swap out the keyboard and put piano keys, or a screen, in its place. You can’t exactly do that in the final release version, at least not for now, but the storefront Framework has for modules and parts has a whole lot of stuff, from mainboards to even extra RAM and colored screen frames. The customization options are endless.

If you want to get one, Framework has finally made it available for pre-order. Prices start at $1,399 for the DIY version, but if you want a prebuilt option, you can expect to pay a bit more than that. A prebuilt version with a Ryzen 7 7480HS can go up to $1,699, while adding an AMD Radeon RX 7700S module could go up to $2,099. Make sure to visit Framework’s website and pre-order yours today.
