  • Create a system restore point first.
  • Now using Start search, type regedit and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor.
  • Using its address bar, go to the following location:
  • Right-click on Microsoft and Create > New > Key, and name it as EdgeUpdate
  • Now select EdgeUpdate and then on the right side, right-click > New DWORD (32-bit)
  • Name it CreateDesktopShortcutDefault and give it a value of 0.
  • Create one more new DWORD, name it RemoveDesktopShortcutDefault and give it a value of 1.
  • Restart your computer.

Alternatively. open a new Notepad text file and copy-paste the following code:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00


Save it as a .reg file; e.g. as StopEdgeIcon.reg.

Then click on it to add its contents to your Windows Registry.

To reverse the changes, delete the created Registry keys or go back to the created Restore point.
